DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – Select pharmacies in Texas are expected to rollout COVID-19 vaccinations as early as next week as part of the Biden administration’s plan to distribute doses to pharmacies nationwide.
“The idea is that the Federal government will ship some doses of vaccine directly to these pharmacy providers,” said Texas Department of State Health Services, Chris Van Deusen. “Our understanding is that this isn’t going to come out of the rest of the vaccine that Texas is getting, so that’s good news.”
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Federal Retail Pharmacy Program for COVID-19 Vaccination is a collaboration between the federal government, states and territories, and 21 national pharmacy partners and independent pharmacy networks to increase access to COVID-19 vaccination across the United States. Participants are expected to receive vaccine through this program during the week of February 8. This list is specific to the Federal Retail Pharmacy Program. Some states have engaged additional pharmacies directly to assist with vaccination efforts.
According to Van Deusen, pharmacies participating in Texas include:
- CVS Pharmacy, Inc.
- H-E-B, LP
- Good Neighbor Pharmacy and AmerisourceBergen Drug Corporation’s pharmacy services administrative organization (PSAO), Elevate Provider
- Walmart, Inc.
Only select stores and locations will rollout the vaccine next week. Each pharmacy is expected to release specifics in days to come. CVS plans to allocate 38,000 doses to a total of 70 Texas stores. Only patients eligible for shots per state guidelines who make appointments through the pharmacy will be given appointments.
