FORT WORTH (WBAP/KLIF) – One of the largest COVID-19 vaccination sites in the country opened Tuesday in North Texas.
A parking lot outside Texas Motor Speedway was covered in cones and was home to 16 rows of white tents Monday morning as thousands of cars moved through Denton County’s drive up vaccination site.
“It was great and it was fast,” said one patient who was in and out in about half an hour.
“It’s like history in the making, I mean look at this,” another man emphasized as he waited in his SUV.
The average wait time at the TMS site was anywhere between 30 and 60 minutes depending on how long a patient was asked to wait in the observation area after their shot. Denton County health officials planned to administer 10,000 shots Tuesday.
“We’re used to having the biggest and the best here in Denton County,” Denton County Commissioner Dianne Edmonson emphasized.
Denton County received a vaccine shipment this week of 30,000 doses. The TMS site is expected to vaccinate 10 thousand people per day again on Thursday and Friday. The site will be closed on Wednesday. Appointments are mandatory and registrations can be made through the Denton County website.
