(WBAP/KLIF) — Lawyers for the family of Tinslee Lewis have changed course in a lawsuit against Cook’s Children’s Medical Center. The family withdrew a court motion to compel the hospital to allow a new doctor to treat the child.
The motion was entered, Tuesday, after hospital lawyers said turning care over to a Michigan based physician willing to operate on Tinslee isn’t viable. The hospital cited the doctor wasn’t medically licensed in Texas and that there is a liability risk of Cook’s doctors being forced to assist.
However, there’s new hope for the family of Tinslee, as they may be able to transfer the ill child for treatment. Dr. Glenn Green of C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan, agreed to treat the girl, but at the time,the hospital had no ICU beds available.
Cook Children’s officials recently contacted the Michigan hospital and found that CS Mott indicated that ICU beds are available and they are accepting new transfer patients.
According to the Dallas Morning News, Cook’s doctors maintain there’s no change in Tinslee Lewis’ terminal condition, citing that the young girl continues to suffer, her body has stiffened, and she has suffered serious infections since January.
