DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – Despite push back from Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, Dallas County will allow potential voters to cast a ballot by mail in any 2020 election over concerns regarding contracting the coronavirus.
The Dallas County Commissioners court took virtual public comment on the topic before passing the measure 4 to 1.
“Six foot distancing can easily be enforced at a polling place to mitigate risk,” said a Dallas voter.
“No voter should have to risk their lief by trying to do their duty,” argued another Dallas County resident.
Paxton said in an official statement that mail ballots based on disability are specifically reserved for those who are physically ill and cannot vote in-person as a result.
“Fear of contracting COVID-19 does not amount to a sickness or physical condition as required by the Legislature,” said Paxton. “The integrity of our democratic election process must be maintained, and law established by our Legislature must be followed consistently.”
Opponents also argued that more mail in ballots could increase the chance for voter fraud.
