FRISCO (WBAP/KLIF)- PGA of America is relocating it’s headquarters after 50 years from Florida to Frisco.
PGA CEO Seth Waugh says the 600-acre mixed use development will have an initial investment worth more than half a billion dollars.
“First it started as a headquarters and then we started a dream of what it could be to what our mission is which is serving our members and growing, evolving the game,” Waugh said.
The PGA of America will initially employ at least 100 people at the Frisco-based headquarters.The site includes two championship golf courses, a short course, and practice areas totaling 45 holes; a clubhouse; Class AA office space; a 500-room Omni resort and 127-000-square-foot conference center; a technologically advanced retail village; parks and open space plus several miles of trails, will compliment this unique, signature development. Two PGA Championships are already set for the facility (2027 and 2034). North Texas has not hosted a major men’s golf championship since 1963 (PGA Championship at Dallas Athletic Club). There is also a possibility of a future Ryder Cup.
“We want it to be timeless and have the best minds around it…the most beautiful thing about Texas and why we’re so thrilled to be here is that everyone who lives here can’t imagine living anywhere else and they’re such big thinkers always looking for the next big thing,” Waugh said.
Waugh says this development is more than just golf, he calls it “the Silicon Valley of golf” and the home of the game in the U.S.
The site is roughly on the southwest corner of the Dallas North Tollway and Highway 380.
The golf courses are expected to open in Summer 2022 while the hotel, convention center and other facilities are expected to open within six months of that date.
