DALLAS/FORT WORTH (WBAP/KLIF) – The DFW Airport received $180 million federal grant from the Department of Transportation (DOT) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). This grant will fund two end-around taxiway systems. U.S. Secretary of Transportation Elaine Chao delivered the Letter of Intent to the Airport on Friday. “This investment in two new taxiways will help ensure more efficient movement of travelers and commercial goods through the 4th busiest airport in our nation,” Chao said.
CEO of DFW Airport, Sean Donahue thanks DOT and FAA for their partnership. “The Taxiways are a critical addition to the DFW Airport, they absolutely increase safety and they help better utilize our runways,” Donahue said.
The next phase of the end-around taxiways is already under construction on DFW’s Northeast quadrant, the completion is anticipated for 2021. The Airport’s Southwest quadrant is expected to be completed by 2023.
The federal funding included in the Letter of Intent could cover up to have of the overall cost of the next two phases.
In addition, Secretary Chao delivered a $31 million AIP grant for the Rehabilitation Runway 17-C at the airport. The construction for that project is expected to be completed by 2019.
