DALLAS (KLIF/WBAP) — Scientists are looking for one million volunteers to provide medical data in a first of its kind research study.
It’s called the All of Us project, run by the National Institutes of Health.
Scientists are asking for blood samples, fitness club information and test results, in an effort to get a better idea about things like diseases, genetic predispositions, even addiction. They plan to follow volunteers for at least ten years.
Supporters say the study will give scientists unprecedented access to a huge set of data that could lead to medical breakthroughs in several areas.
Opponents say the study is too expensive, and is only funded currently for a short time. Congress has approved $360 million for the study’s first two years.
