A Year Later, Midlothian Police Still Searching for Missy Bevers’ Killer

MIDLOTHIAN (WBAP/KLIF News) – Despite 1400 tips and a seven-second video showing a possible suspect walking the halls of Creekside Church of Christ with a hammer, Midlothian police said they’re frustrated that Missy Bevers’ murder has not been solved.

Bevers, a fitness instructor and mother of three, was killed April 18, 2016 just before dawn.

She had gone to the church to teach an early-morning Camp Gladiator class and died from puncture wounds to the head and chest.

Authorities have cleared Bevers’ husband and friends. They’ve looked at her phone records and social media trying to develop a lead.

Midlothian Assistant Chief Kevin Johnson told WFAA TV there are a lot of varying opinions about this case, including who is underneath all of that tactical gear in the widely-viewed surveillance video.

“Whether it was targeted or whether it was random. Some people see a woman in that video, some people see a man,” he said.

One opinion that all parties involved agree in is the desire to get some justice for Bevers.

Renee Jones, Missy’s friend and fellow Camp Gladiator trainer, told WFAA TV it’s frustrating but she’s trying not to let her emotions overwhelm her.

“Here lately, in the last six-months or so, we just try to have a really positive mindset and tried to focus on the life of Missy and not the tragedy that happened on April 18th. That’s how we get through it,” he said.

Midlothian police said they have a full-time investigator and the FBI working this case.
