DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) – Dallas County District Attorney Faith Johnson said in a statement that she will “vigorously prosecute” the individuals involved in the shooting of 31-year-old Lyndo Jones in Mesquite if a grand jury hands down any indictments.
Jones was shot twice earlier this month, after officers responded to a possible car burglary call before police confirmed that the truck he was in belonged to him.
Investigators said he was shot by Officer Derick Wiley, a 10-year veteran of the force.
Jones’ attorneys have seen the dashcam footage in the incident and are demanding that it be released to the public.
Johnson issued a statement on Monday stating that her office is committed to seeking justice.
“I am committed to seeking what is right and fair, and that includes a thorough and thoughtful investigation of each case based on its individual facts and circumstances. The Dallas County District Attorney’s Office has the responsibility to get it right. We must review all of the facts as a whole prior to determining how to properly proceed. Sometimes those facts are not immediately available. If the Grand Jury determines that criminal charges are merited, this office will vigorously prosecute those individuals responsible to the fullest extent of the law.”
Jones currently back in the hospital for possible pneumonia and infection from injuries suffered during the shooting.
Wiley is set to go before a grand jury this week.
