Dallas (WBAP/KLIF) – Dallas police say two people opened fire outside the South Central Patrol substation Sunday morning. Police say the gunmen started firing from a car outside the station on Camp Wisdom Road around 5:19 Sunday morning.
Police say an officer was parked in front of the building and saw flashes from the gun but could not tell the make or model of the car driving by.
“An event like this will often cause us to revisit what we need to do at the stations as well,” says Assistant Chief Randall Blankenbaker. “The reason this officer was where he was at was to help with station security.”
Police say the shooters fired nine times. Three hit the station, but no officers or civilians were hurt. The shooters then left in a dark, two-door sedan, headed east on Camp Wisdom.
“The events of the past two years have predictably created a challenging work atmosphere for our officers,” Blankenbaker says.
Blankenbaker says Dallas police will look at how they can increase security without preventing access to the public.
“Our stations can’t become fortresses that are imposing and say to the citizens, ‘Don’t come here,’” he says.
