Dallas (WBAP/KLIF) – Hundreds packed into the Mexican Consulate in Dallas Thursday night, looking for advice on what they should do during what seems to be a U.S. crackdown on illegal immigrants. Federal officials say they made nearly 700 immigration arrests around the country last week, few if any were in the Dallas area, but the Mexican Consul says requests to his office for legal assistance have jumped from 10 or 15 a day last July to 100 a day now. The Pew Research Center estimates there are 475,000 unauthorized immigrants in the Dallas area. The Mexican Consul puts that number at 500,000.
