Dozens to Rappel Down Reunion Tower for a Good Cause This Weekend

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) – Dozens of people will rappel down Reunion Tower at the Hyatt Regency Dallas this weekend to raise money for a non-profit that helps fight addiction.

“Shatterproof” helps families who are dealing with a loved one addicted to prescription drugs like painkillers.

The group’s Nancy Palo said she’s worked with lawmakers in Austin to pass a law to set up a tracking system for people who get prescriptions.

“I’ll be back on Tuesday testifying to get laws passed around prescription drug monitoring programs. We’ve been in 14 states and have had laws passed in every one of them so far,” she said.

Addiction is still a taboo subject for many. Palo said public events can help get more people comfortable talking about it.

“The more that we can talk about it and the more that people get out there and support their loved one’s who are living with this disease and help them get the treatment that they need…the sooner we will be able to end this epidemic,” she said.

72 people raised $150,000 to rappel down Reunion Tower tomorrow. The event will take place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Last year, the event raised over $2 million at events across the country.
