ARLINGTON (WBAP/KLIF News) — Arlington Police increased their presence at Martin High School Friday because of a shooting threat that made its way through social media Thursday night.
However, police say the threat was deemed not credible and that nobody needs to worry.
“Right now, it’s a bunch of ‘he said, she said,'” said Lieutenant Chris Cook. “No one can really point us to who started this. And with as big of a school as Martin is, it spread like wildfire.”
Cook says the threat had to do with gang retaliation, with one gang reportedly saying they were going to get revenge against another by shooting up the school. They’re still investigating the source of the social media post and could pursue charges of making a false, terroristic threat.
Regardless, Cook says the department took the threat seriously.
“We started tracking down the people who posted it on Twitter and made contact with several of them,” Cook said. “We determined it was all hearsay from them. No one could point us to who actually started this.”
