(WBAP/KLIF) — One Texas county sued for covering the legal fees of illegal aliens.
Attorney General Ken Paxton filed a lawsuit against Bexar County, its Commissioners Court, and multiple county officials for allegedly allocating taxpayer money to fund the legal defense of illegal aliens facing federal deportation proceedings.
In December of last year the Bexar County Commissioners Court allocated over $560-thousand in county funds to provide legal services to illegal migrants. Paxton accuses Bexar County of allocating as much as a million dollars to the program.
Paxton released a statement saying, “State funds cannot underwrite deportation-defense services for individuals unlawfully present in the country. This use of hardworking Texans’ dollars is a flagrant violation of state law and the Texas Constitution.”
The state of Texas is seeking a temporary restraining order and injunction.
