Escaped Inmate Found in Rural Ellis County

An escaped Ellis County inmate is in custody.

According to the Ellis County Sheriff’s Department, David Rowe was found around 2 p.m. Tuesday in a rural part of the county.

“He was down in a creek line area in heavy, heavy brush under large trees,” Sgt. Joe Fitzgerald said.

It’s believed Rowe spent the night in an abandoned RV.

“We discovered the RV that no one lived in,” said Sgt. Fitzgerald. “We found some of his articles and K-9 was deployed from that location and led us to where he was found.”

Rowe was assigned to the Alternative Prisoner Program on trustee status and was mowing grass when we walked away from his detail and fled authorities, Monday. He was in prison for DWI and Evading Arrest.

Rowe has now been charged with felony Escape. He was taken to the hospital for concerns of dehydration.
