(WBAP/KLIF) — Southwestern Public Service Company, owner of Xcel Eenergy, must immediately protect Texans from potential wildfire risks.
Xcel is required to immediately replace damaged and rotting utility poles as well as large-scale inspections on 35,000 poles per year across it’s Texas service area.
In 2024, the Smokehouse Creek Fire ravaged the Texas panhandle, burning more than 1 million acres and killing three Texans.
The fire started when a rotting utility pole broke, dropping live electrical wires onto the vegetation below.
