DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) – The SPCA of Texas said they’ve rescued nearly 100 pets in North Texas in the last three weeks.
The organization’s Victoria Albrecht said 50 cats, 26 dogs and a variety of other animals were suffering from a variety of mistreatments.
“Starvation, neglect, abandonment…all these causes are part of the reasons why SPCA of Texas goes in and helps,” she said.
It’s a situation the organization is worried is going to escalate as the temperatures begin to rise.
Albreacht said the number of mistreated animals typically goes up during Summer months.
“If animals are going to be outside, they’re going to need shelter and extra water because they’re coats, especially dogs, they can overheat very quickly,” she said.
Many shelters in North Texas are aware of the situation and will continue to take in pets in need of adoption.
“These animals they need us and we can help with situations like these,” said Albrecht.
