AUSTIN (WBAP/KLIF News)– Texas’ ‘Sanctuary Cities’ law could lead to major controversy in the cities themselves.
Immigration Attorney Eric Cedillo says that the law is too vague and that some parts of it don’t provide enough guidance.
“If they ask everyone what their status is, then that’s one thing. If they’re asking specific groups, then what is the basis for that? Usually it’s going to be along the lines of whether or not they speak English well enough, whether or not they appear to be Latino or foreign,” says Cedillo.
The law, scheduled to take effect in September, will allow police officers to inquire about the immigration status of people they lawfully detain.
