(WBAP/KLIF) — Dallas Cowboys defensive end Marshawn Kneeland was diagnosed with stage 1 chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) following his suicide last year. The diagnosis was made by scientists at the Boston University CTE Center through post-mortem brain tissue analysis.
Kneeland, 24, was in his second season with the Cowboys when he died, and CTE is a degenerative brain disease linked to repeated head trauma. The diagnosis sheds light on the struggles athletes may face, and highlights the importance of raising awareness about CTE in high-contact sports like football.
Despite advancements in concussion protocols and equipment, the risk of CTE remains a concern, emphasizing the need for CTE prevention protocols and reducing head impacts in the game.
