Dallas County Inmate Climbs Into Hospital Ceiling, Surrenders After Hearing K-9
A Dallas County inmate accused of aggravated robbery surrendered Sunday after authorities said the 36-year-old climbed into the ceiling above a hospital restroom in an attempt to escape custody.
The July 12 incident occurred at Methodist Charlton Medical Center in Dallas, where the inmate was receiving treatment while wearing leg restraints and under a deputy’s supervision, according to a public statement from Dallas County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Doug Sisk.
After the inmate asked to use the restroom, a deputy escorted the person there.
“While inside the restroom, the inmate removed a ceiling tile and climbed into the ceiling in an attempt to escape custody,” the statement said.
Authorities notified Methodist Hospital Police after discovering the inmate was missing. Dallas police officers and a DeSoto Police Department K-9 unit also responded.
The sheriff’s office has not disclosed the inmate’s name, sex, reason for hospitalization, how long the person remained in the ceiling or how much time elapsed before recapture. Authorities said the inmate is expected to face additional criminal charges as the investigation continues.
In another recent Dallas escape-from-custody case, a handcuffed suspect allegedly drove away in a police squad car with an officer inside before jumping from the moving vehicle on Interstate 35, as previously reported by The Dallas Express.
