A 19-year-old soldier from Carrollton has been identified as one of two U.S. service members killed during an Iranian attack on a military installation in Jordan last week.
The City has learned of the passing of Carrollton native Pvt. Isabella Gonzales, U.S. Army, who was killed in combat this weekend while serving overseas.

According to a press release published by the Department of War on Monday, Pvt. Isabella Gonzales, 19, of Carrollton, Texas, was killed in action on July 17 during an enemy attack that day at Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan. Also killed was 1st Lt. Tyler James Feehan, 25, of Ewa Beach, Hawaii, who died of his injuries on July 18. The department said the incident still remains under investigation as of the time of publication.
According to the release, Gonzales was assigned to 1st Battalion, 57th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, 52nd Air Defense Artillery Brigade, 10th Army Air and Missile Defense Command, based in Ansbach, Germany. Feehan was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 55th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, 32nd Army Air and Missile Defense Command, out of Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Both soldiers were on duty supporting Operation Inherent Resolve, the ongoing U.S. military mission against the Islamic State group, at the time of the attack.
Their deaths now bring the number of U.S. service members killed in the overall conflict with Iran to 17 total, per AP News. A third American service member was also killed over the weekend, though that individual’s name has not yet been released pending family notification.
The casualties come as American forces have carried out a ninth consecutive night of strikes tied to control of the Strait of Hormuz, with Iran retaliating against American allies in the area, including Bahrain and Kuwait.
The U.S. Embassy in Bahrain has since issued an updated security alert, reading:
“The U.S. Embassy has information to suggest that Iran may seek to target unspecified locations in central Manama. We urge all Americans to remain vigilant, follow local authorities’ instructions, and review the latest guidance from the U.S. Embassy.”
Speaking to reporters at Joint Base Andrews before departing for an ASEAN foreign ministers’ meeting in the Philippines, Secretary of State Marco Rubio defended the ongoing military response and said Washington remains open to diplomatic solutions, though he added those options are currently limited after Iranian leaders suspended an interim peace agreement.
“The only reason why the U.S. is conducting strikes is against assets of Iran that are being used to attack global commercial shipping. The Straits of Hormuz are an international waterway…The United States is involved not just in protecting those ships but in targeting the places that they use to launch these missiles and drones,” Rubio said. “As long as Iran insists on controlling an international waterway, we’re going to have to respond to that.”
Gonzales is the latest North Texas service member to be killed in the conflict. The Department of War said family notifications have been completed for both soldiers, and additional details about their service are expected to be released in the coming days.
