Ford Motor Company is recalling more than 565,000 Bronco and Bronco Raptor SUVs in the United States because a damaged engine compartment wiring harness could short-circuit, increasing the risk of an engine fire.
The recall affects an estimated 565,691 model-year 2021-2026 Ford Bronco and Bronco Raptor vehicles, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
Federal safety regulators said the engine compartment wiring harness may become damaged, allowing it to short circuit. If that happens, the electrical fault can generate heat or sparks that could produce smoke or ignite a fire under the hood. An engine compartment fire increases the risk of serious injury or death.
Ford estimates that about 1% of the recalled vehicles may have the defect. The company said it was aware of 15 reported incidents in which there is evidence that a fire event may have originated from the engine compartment wiring harness, but no injuries or fatalities related to the issue have been reported.
To address the issue, Ford dealers will install protective sheathing over the wiring harness at no cost to owners. Owner notification letters are scheduled to be mailed beginning August 24, 2026. Owners can also contact Ford Customer Service at 1-866-436-7332 and reference recall number 26S55.
Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) for affected vehicles became searchable on the NHTSA website on July 23, 2026.
Owners of 2021-2026 Bronco and Bronco Raptor models should:
- Check whether their vehicle is included in the recall using its VIN.
- Watch for an owner notification letter beginning August 24.
- Schedule a free repair with a Ford dealership if their vehicle is affected.
