A second driver faces felony charges after McKinney police alleged that a street race preceded a July 17 crash that killed a married couple who worked in Allen ISD schools.
Braydon Moss, 22, surrendered July 25 after police obtained warrants for his arrest, authorities announced. Moss faces two counts of racing on a highway resulting in injury or death. Police said both charges are second-degree felonies. Moss later bonded out of jail on the charges, WFAA reported.
As previously reported by The Dallas Express, the crash killed William “Bill” Lavich Lazarus and Sandra “Sandi” Lee Lazarus, both 77, at Custer Road and Bedford Lane.
Police Accuse Drivers Of Racing
Investigators allege Moss drove a black Tesla and raced James Armont, 51, who drove a BMW. Armont’s BMW struck the couple’s silver Hyundai at the intersection, police said.
McKinney police arrested Armont on July 21 and charged him with two counts of manslaughter. Armont and his passengers went to a hospital with injuries that police described as non-life-threatening.
Officers responded to the collision at approximately 6:26 p.m. July 17. Emergency personnel pronounced William and Sandra Lazarus dead at the scene.
Couple Served Allen ISD
William Lazarus worked as the attendance clerk at Ereckson Middle School. Sandra Lazarus, known as Sandi, retired two years ago after working as an instructional aide at Lindsey Elementary School, Allen ISD said.
“This loss is weighing on my heart, as I know it is for many across our Allen ISD family,” Acting Superintendent Kim McLaughlin said.
Family members, friends and community members have left flowers and other tributes at a memorial near the crash site.
