Just weeks after being crowned Miss North Carolina USA 2026, Brittany Boltinhouse has been stripped of her title following a review of resurfaced social media posts that organizers said conflicted with the values of the Miss USA organization.
A Blaize Productions, which holds the state license for the Miss North Carolina USA pageant, announced the decision, saying it came after “a thorough review of recently surfaced information.”
“This decision was not made lightly,” the organization said in a statement. “It followed a thorough review of recently surfaced information and was based on the totality of the circumstances and our responsibility to preserve the integrity of the Miss North Carolina USA title and the values of our organization.”
While organizers did not specify the content that prompted the decision, North Carolina news outlet NCBeat reported that resurfaced posts allegedly showed Boltinhouse using a racial slur on social media between 2017 and 2019 under the username “Sosa the Stallion.”
Miss USA CEO Says Decision Reflected Pattern of Conduct
Thom Brodeur, chairman and CEO of Miss USA, confirmed Boltinhouse’s removal and said the organization maintains a zero-tolerance stance toward discriminatory language or behavior.
“The Miss USA brand does not tolerate racism, homophobia, transphobia, nor language that strips any person of their dignity — whoever they are,” Brodeur said.
He added that the decision was not based on a single incident.
“What was brought to us was not a single moment. It reflected conduct over an extended period of time. That is why this outcome was reached, and I stand behind it without qualification,” Brodeur said.
Brodeur said Boltinhouse had accepted responsibility and apologized for her past conduct but said that did not alter the outcome.
“While it does not undo the harm, and it does not change the outcome, it is the beginning of the only thing that ever repairs harm, which is change,” he said.
First Runner-Up Will Represent North Carolina
Boltinhouse, 27, won the Miss North Carolina USA title on June 28 and had been preparing to compete in the 75th Miss USA pageant later this month in Miami.
Following her removal, first runner-up Myla Hadley has been named Miss North Carolina USA 2026 and will represent the state at the national competition.
A Blaize Productions acknowledged that “people are capable of growth” and that “grace and accountability can coexist,” but said titleholders are expected to uphold the organization’s standards of leadership and public conduct.
Boltinhouse has not yet publicly commented on her removal, but Brodeur indicated that a public statement from Boltinhouse taking ownership and accountability for her actions may be forthcoming.
