Arrest in West Dallas shooting
In a separate case, police announced the August 6 arrest of 21-year-old Jacob Sherif on a murder charge in the death of Jose Hernandez, 21.
Officers responded at approximately 11:29 p.m. on August 4 to a shooting call in the 2200 block of Singleton Boulevard. Investigators determined that a suspect shot Hernandez and fled. Hernandez drove away but crashed into a lake near Singleton Boulevard and Fish Trap Road, police said. Dallas Fire-Rescue responded, and Hernandez died at the scene.
Police placed Sherif in the Dallas County Jail but did not disclose additional details about what led investigators to him.
Police upgrade murder charge after victim dies
Police separately upgraded the charge against Josiah Gomez, 21, from aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury to murder after Sylvester Victor, 26, died from injuries he sustained in a July 5 altercation, as previously reported by The Dallas Express.
DPD alleges that Gomez pushed Victor down a flight of stairs and stomped on his head outside a business in the 2600 block of Main Street. Authorities arrested Gomez on July 22. Investigators learned on August 6 that Victor had died from his injuries, prompting the charge upgrade.
