FORT WORTH (WBAP/KLIF) – A baby gorilla born in a historic emergency C-section at the Fort Worth Zoo will be available to see this week only ahead of a transfer to the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo. Jameela was not bonded with her mother, and zookeepers think that’s because hormones play a vital part in mother and baby bonding that come with natural or full term birth. Jameela was born a preemie.
Cleveland Metroparks Zoo gorilla experts say they have a female gorilla that has proven successful surrogate experience, and believe Jameela will bond with her and learn all there is to being a gorilla from this primate.
The Fort Worth Zoo does want patrons to see the baby gorilla, and to that end, this week, she will be available to onlookers, with zoo hours running from 10 am daily through 5 pm on weekdays, and until 6pm on weekends. Zookeepers say they hope to see her return to Fort Worth in coming years.
