DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — The British military says a cargo ship traveling through the Strait of Hormuz on a United Nations-approved route was hit by a projectile. The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations center reported the attack Thursday. It said there were no causalities or any environmental impact. It was not clear who launched the projectile or the type of vessel that was targeted. The report of a strike came hours after Iran threatened vessels to stop using the through the strait without Tehran’s permission. Before the report of the strike, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Washington was committed making sure ships were able to transit the strait.

Iran's Revolutionary Guards on May 4 denied that any commercial ships had crossed the Strait of Hormuz, after the US military earlier said two US-flagged merchant vessels had transited through the vital waterway.
