A three-alarm fire tore through a Northeast Dallas condominium complex early Friday, destroying at least 24 units, forcing more than 45 residents from their homes, and triggering multiple roof collapses, according to Dallas Fire-Rescue.
Firefighters responded around 1 a.m. to the Cambridge Park Condominiums in the 11400 block of Audelia Road, near Skillman Street and Interstate 635, after receiving reports of a structure fire.
When crews arrived, they encountered heavy flames coming from the roof of a three-story condominium building.
Dallas Fire-Rescue initially launched an interior attack but switched to a defensive strategy as firefighters determined the blaze had already reached an advanced stage.
A second alarm was quickly requested as the fire spread through the building. A third alarm followed, bringing approximately 60 to 70 firefighters to the scene to battle the flames.
Officials said the fire caused significant structural damage, including multiple roof collapses.
At least 24 condominium units were destroyed or heavily damaged, leaving more than 45 residents without homes. The American Red Cross was called to assist those displaced by the fire.
Despite the extensive damage, officials said everyone inside the building was able to evacuate safely, and no injuries were reported.
One resident told NBC 5 DFW she had little warning as smoke filled the building.
“When I came outside of my condo, I didn’t see anything,” she said. “I had to drop to my knees and crawl down three flights of stairs. When I looked up, I could look and see that my condo was gone.”
Fire investigators have not determined what sparked the blaze. Dallas Fire-Rescue said the investigation remains ongoing as crews continue assessing the damage to the Cambridge Park Condominiums.
