FORT WORTH (WBAP/KLIF) – Local leaders and medical experts are watching closely as bars in several North Texas counties reopened this weekend.
Bars in Collin, Tarrant, and Denton Counties can be open at 50% capacity. Dallas County is not allowing for it just yet.
The first weekend since the reopening announcement brought eager and cautious customers, but also close supervision. Fort Worth Code Compliance Director Brandon Bennett said his staff is cracking down on business that violate requirements.
“We’re going to hold them accountable,” he insisted.
Bar owners are happy to be open but many said they can’t sustain their business at just half capacity.
Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price was joined by local bar and restaurant owner, Vance Martin and Code Compliance Director Brandon Bennett over the weekend to discuss the re-opening of bars in the city.
“A lot of people don’t like the rules and I understand that,” Martin said. “But you don’t have to like the rules. You only have to abide by them so we can get to the next step.”
In a social media video post on Friday with Martin, Mayor Price said the city has to continue to prioritize the health and safety of the community, and must also find ways to support our local businesses.
